Negombo or Kotugoda, Sigiriya or Habarana, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya or Haputale, Columbus
Take the classic Sri Lanka itinerary including a train ride through the picturesque landscapes and visit the beautiful tea fields on this 10-day itinerary.
Day 1: COLOMBO - NEGOMBO OR KOTUGODA
Arrival in Colombo, private transfer to the hotel (about 45 minutes). Accommodation for 1 night, with breakfast.
Day 2: NEGOMBO OR KOTUGODA - SIGIRIYA OR HABARANA
After breakfast and check-out from the hotel, private transfer to Sigiriya (about 3 hours and 30 minutes).
Visit the Sigiriya Fort, with its 1,200 steps. Also known as Lion's Rock, it is a rock fortress built in the 5th century, which was once a castle of King Kashyapa and a Buddhist monastery in the 14th century. Continuation to the hotel.
Accommodation for 3 nights, with a meal plan depending on the stay (see price tab).
Day 3: SIGIRIYA OR HABARANA
Breakfast at the hotel. Private full-day tour, with English-speaking guide, to Polonnaruwa and Minneriya.
Polonnaruwa is the second oldest kingdom in Sri Lanka, declared capital by King Vijayabahu I in 1070. It is one of the best-planned archaeological sites in the country.
Then, visit Minneriya for a regular safari in Minneriya National Park, famous for its elephants and species diversity, such as 160 birds, 9 amphibians, 25 reptiles, and more than 78 butterflies. The park also has rare bamboo trees.
Day 4: SIGIRIYA OR HAbarana
After breakfast, private half-day tour, with an English-speaking guide, to Hiriwadunna.
Visit a local village to experience the typical Sri Lankan routine, with nature walks, a ride in an ox cart, crossing a stream on foot, a longer catamaran ride, and a visit to a farm to introduce Chinese cultivation. Stop for lunch (without drinks).
Day 5: SIGIRIYA OR HABARANA - MATALE - KANDY
Breakfast and hotel check-out. Private transfer to Kandy (about 3 hours and 40 minutes).
Stop in Matale to visit an artisanal soap factory, run by women, that combines well-being, sustainability and luxury. During the visit, demonstration about the choice of fragrances and the process of cutting and packaging the products.
Continuation to the hotel. Accommodation for 2 nights, with a meal plan depending on the stay (see price tab).
DAY 6: KANDY
After breakfast, private half-day tour, with an English-speaking guide, to the city of Kandy.
Visit to the Buddha Tooth Temple, followed by a walk along Lake Kandy. Walking tour through the city streets, with a visit to a local church, Ali Mudukkuwa's shops, the clock tower and the Kandy Market.
DAY 7: KANDY - NANU OYA - NUWARA ELIYA OR HAPUTALE Breakfast and hotel check-out.
Private transfer to Kandy Station and board a train, with panoramic mountain views, to Nanu Oya (about 3 hours and 30 minutes).
After disembarkation, private transfer to the hotel. Accommodation for 2 nights, with a meal plan depending on the stay (see price tab).
Day 8: NUWARA ELIYA OR HAPUTALE
Breakfast at the hotel and free day to enjoy the hotel or carry out independent activities, with a driver available (maximum distance of 100 km).
Day 9: NUWARA ELIYA OR HAPUTALE - COLOMBO
Breakfast and hotel check-out. Private transfer to Colombo (about 6 hours).
Arrival and private transfer to the hotel. Accommodation for 1 night, with breakfast.
Optional activity suggestion (not included):
- Panoramic city tour, with passage through commercial and residential areas, such as Cinnamon Gardens. Visit Fort, the former British administrative center, Sea Street in Pettah, a Hindu temple, and the Dutch Wolfendhal Church. Weather permitting, stop at Independence Square.
Day 10: COLOMBO
Breakfast and hotel check-out. Private transfer to Colombo airport (about 45 minutes).
