Paths of Bolivia: from Sucre to Uyuni

Discover the Andean landscapes and the spectacular Salar do Uyuni, the largest salt plain in the world, on this 4-day itinerary.
Day 1: Sucre
Arrival in Sucre and private transfer to the hotel. Accommodation for 1 night, with full board (without drinks).
Half-day private tour, with a guide in Spanish or English, through the main tourist attractions of the city of Sucre, also known as the “White City”. Visit the Convento de la Recoleta Museum, the Textile Art Museum (ASUR) - where you can see the handmade fabrics made by the region's rural ethnic groups, the Plaza Principal 25 de Mayo, the famous Casa de la Libertad and the Bolivar Park, which was reserved only for aristocrats.
After the tour return to the hotel.
Remarks:
- The museums are closed on Sundays, except for Casa de la Libertad, so the tour of the city on Sundays will only be done outdoors.
- The Casa de la Libertad museum is closed on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Day 2: Sucre - Potosí - Uyuni
Breakfast and check-out at the hotel. Travel of approximately 3 hours to Potosí, located about 4,000 meters above sea level. Along the way, pass through the Pilcomayo River, which separates the districts of Chuquisaca and Potosí, where it is possible to see Puente Mendez, a suspended bridge with stone towers in Neo-Gothic style from the mid-19th century.
Arrival in Potosí and private half-day tour, with a guide in Spanish or English. Walking tour of the historic center of the city, passing by the San Lorenzo de Carangas Church, La Merced Church, San Francisco Church and the Company Tower. Visit the Casa de la Moneda, the most important museum and historical collection in the city, with traces of the influence that the city had on the country and on the world when it was at its greatest splendor.
Lunch stop at a local restaurant (no drinks).
Then, drive to the Potosi Mines, located on Cerro Rico, about 30 minutes from Potosí. Visit the Minas Gerais market, where you can learn a little about the importance of using coca leaves, alcohol, and dynamite, which can be purchased.
Later on the visit to the mine, to understand the work of the miners and their practices that accompany it, in addition to being able to observe their rites and customs, especially the worship or “Ch'alla” of the “Tío” (god of the mine, owner of wealth) and also of the “Tata K'ajcha” (responsible for their safety).
Finally, continue the trip for about 4 hours to Uyuni. Accommodation for 2 nights, with half board (without drinks).
Day 3: UYUNI - SALAR DO UYUNI - INCAHAUSI ISLAND - UYUNI
After breakfast at the hotel, departure for a private full-day tour with a guide in Spanish or English.
Visit the Train Cemetery, an impressive field of 19th and 20th century locomotives and wagons, abandoned in the desert.
At Salar de Uyuni, visit the craft market and a local salt-processing factory. Entry to the Salar, passing by the water springs and observing how salt is extracted in blocks and piles. Visit the famous Plaza de las Banderas and the Giant Sculptures.
Continue to Incahuasi Island, also known as Cliff Island, where it is possible to observe the famous giant cacti. Apthapi-type lunch stop — an Andean tradition of community food sharing — in the middle of the salt desert.
Finally, head south to watch the sunset on the coast, accompanied by wine and snacks.
Return to the hotel.
Day 4: UYUNI
Breakfast and check-out at the hotel. Private airport transfer.
