Touristic spots
National Parks
- Gishwati Mukura National Park is home to a group of chimpanzees and other wildlife, including birds. Tours of the region include the traditional chimpanzee watching hike and waterfall exploration.
- Nyungwe is one of the oldest rainforests in Africa. The mountainous region meets wildlife, home to 13 primate species and powerful biodiversity. The park offers six hiking trails, where visitors can immerse themselves in the charms of the forest, contemplating the nature of chimpanzees, various species of plants, birds, and other mammals. Even the butterflies give off the air of grace, making the place magical and unique. The park also offers the option of hiking to the waterfalls, the Canopy Walk suspension bridge and the region's tea plantations.
- The Volcanoes National Park protects the slopes of a magnificent mountain range. The region offers gorilla experience, a visit to the Buhanga Eco-Park, hiking, canoeing, mountain biking, and immersion experiences in local villages.
- Perfect for safaris, Akagera National Park houses the Big Five in constant protection against poaching. Take the opportunity to take a boat trip on the lake, a place with a large group of hippopotamuses, Nile crocodiles and an abundant number of water birds.
Kigali
- The capital Kigali is spread over several hills and valleys that favor road connections to the rest of the country. Dynamic and discreet, the city offers an effervescent art scene, restaurants with panoramic views and the Kigali Cultural Village: a space dedicated to the work of local artisans.
- A walk along the trail around Lake Nyarutarama is surprisingly smooth and a great opportunity to observe the country's most iconic birds.
- Among the cultural tours, the highlight is the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which, through education and peacebuilding, honors the memory of more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994.
Lake Kivu
- Rwanda's largest lake has emerald green waters and is surrounded by beautiful mountains. In addition to the relaxing natural landscape, the Rubavu riverside area is filled with old mansions and bars that offer coffee options to relax at the end of the day.
- It is still possible to go kayaking, bike riding, or take a beautiful hike along the spectacular Congo-Nile Trail.
Best time to go to Rwanda
The best time to visit Rwanda is between June and September, during the dry season when wildlife viewing is at its peak.
Primate forest hikes are a big part of any safari in Rwanda. The habitat of tropical forests is, by default, very humid and rain cannot be avoided completely. Forest hiking is easiest in the dry season and this is also the recommended time for most primate hikes, including gorilla trekking.
