Destination Tahiti

Set of mountainous and tropical islands, surrounded by turquoise lagoons, with extreme natural beauty. That's the definition of paradise!
Discover Tahiti
The mention of Tahiti evokes visions of a paradise island. French Polynesia has a maritime territory that covers 4 million km² and 118 islands and atolls. It is made up of five archipelagos: Sociedade, Marquesas, Austrais, Gambier, and Tuamotu. Among these archipelagos, the best known is Society, where the most famous islands are located: Tahiti, Bora Bora and Moorea.
The Sociedade archipelago, a group of mountainous and tropical islands surrounded by lagoons, is one of the most coveted destinations for tourists seeking extreme natural beauty for their honeymoons, celebrating important dates or simply spending unforgettable vacations.
Tahiti is synonymous with paradise, home to one of the most coveted honeymoon destinations, such as the island of Bora Bora. The ocean that bathes the island seems to be fake, in all shades of blue, turquoise and green as seen in the photos and movies.
Visiting Tahiti is simply unique. It means living in paradise for a few days, being in complete harmony with nature and having the best opportunity to enjoy this moment with the one you love. Not to mention the sky full of stars that illuminate the night in an enchanting way, on an island isolated from all over the world and, best of all, with all imaginable perks.
Touristic spots
Tahiti
Known as “The Queen of the Pacific”, Tahiti is the largest and most populated island, as well as a starting point for international visitors, who land at Faa'a airport, in the capital of Papeete. Tahiti is shaped like the number eight, divided into a larger part, known as Tahiti Nui (“Big Tahiti”) and a smaller peninsula, called Tahiti Iti (“Little Tahiti”).
With lush green peaks reaching over 2,225 meters, its scenery is dramatic. Waterfalls and natural pools deep in the jungle contrast with white sand beaches and turquoise lagoons.
A walk around the island (about 70 kilometers) is a great way to familiarize yourself. Highlights include the Museum of Tahiti and its Islands, the Paul Gauguin Museum, the Harrison W. Smith Botanical Garden, and the Marae Arahurahu (an ancient Tahitian open-air temple).
The Le Marché municipal market, in the city center, is a must-see. The first floor has an abundance of tropical fruits and vegetables and fresh fish. The second floor is dedicated to art and crafts and has the largest selection of colorful pareos (cangas).
Moorea
Known as “The Magic Island”, Moorea is said to have inspired James Michener's mythical island in the play “Bali Hai” and has been the location of many movies, including “The Great Riot” and “Secrets of the Heart”.
Although it is only 17km from Tahiti, Moorea is totally different from its neighbor. To fully appreciate the impressive appearance of this heart-shaped island, the Belvedere Lookout offers stunning views of Moorea, Cook, and Opunohu bays.
Those staying in Tahiti can discover the wonders of Moorea on a day trip — in 30 minutes you can cruise on a catamaran. Moorea has abundant pineapple plantations, which can be seen growing on its slopes. A popular activity is to visit a local distillery and sample exotic liqueurs of pineapple, mango, coconut, vanilla, and other typical Tahitian fruits.
Bora Bora
Bora Bora, known as “The Romantic Island”, is often called the most beautiful island in the world. This small island - just 18 kilometers in circumference - is surrounded by protective coral.
Lush mountains provide an admirable backdrop to the lagoon's indescribable turquoise. Arriving by plane is a unique experience, landing on the runway that was built by American soldiers during the Second World War. The track is on a motu (small islet), and visitors must travel by boat to reach the main island.
It's no surprise that most of the island's activities are centered on the spectacular lagoon and one of the most popular is a visit to the Lagoonarium, a marine exhibition in the lagoon where the more adventurous can swim with rays, huge sea turtles, and reef sharks. For a half-day tour, nothing beats a jeep tour through the interior of this marvelous island.
Bora Bora is home to world-class resorts and quaint French-inspired restaurants, and is renowned for its celebrity visitors who seek to relax in the anonymity of its secluded beaches.
Tikehau
The days pass slowly in Tikehau. Less than an hour's flight from the hustle and bustle of Tahiti is this beautiful atoll that looks like a crown with white and pink sandy beaches shimmering in the lagoon. Approximately 500 Tahitians live there; they are generations of fishermen whose lives revolve around the sea. A life of peace, abundance, and beauty.
Best time to go to Tahiti
High temperatures predominate year-round in French Polynesia, but in the summer months (from November to March) it rains a lot, the best period being between June and October.
