Destination Vietnam

The stunning landscape, the rivers meeting the rice fields and farmers wearing conical hats form the classic image of Vietnam.

Discover Vietnam

Few countries have changed as much over a short period of time as Vietnam. It's a hopeful and moving country: access is now easier than ever, roads are being modernized and hotels are emerging. Vietnam's strident entrepreneurial spirit is alive again, as the old communist system gives way to a socialist market economy. As the number of tourists visiting the country rises, the conversation isn't about bomb craters and army munitions, but about rice fields and fine white sand beaches, rapidly growing cities, and ancient pagodas.
Despite the allure of large cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other major centers, it is the country's impressive landscape that most dazzles. Vietnam occupies a narrow strip of land, bordered by Cambodia and Laos to the west and the South China Sea to the east. It is in the Red (north) and Mekong (south) river delta that rice fields, dragonflies, buffaloes, and farmers wearing conical hats make up the classic image of Vietnam.

Touristic spots

Hanoi

Firmly anchored in the Red River Delta, Hanoi has served as Vietnam's capital for over a thousand years. It is a rapidly growing, decidedly proud city, a place of pagodas and dynastic temples (more than 600 small religious temples), of tamarague-lined lakes and elegant avenues with buildings from the French colonial era, of national monuments and impressive public buildings. Despite the wave of development that involves the whole of Vietnam, it is still common to see people practicing Tai Chi on the edge of lakes in a show that the traditional still resists transformations.

Ho Chi Minh City

At the core of the Mekong Delta, Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, is the second most important city in Vietnam, after Hanoi. It is not only a commercial center, but also a scientific, technological, industrial and tourist center. The city is bathed by many rivers, streams, and canals, the largest of which is the Saigon River. The Port of Saigon, created in 1862, is accessible to ships weighing up to 30,000 tons, a rare advantage in an inland river port. It attracts a large number of visitors with its various attractions such as Ho Chi Minh Museum, Cu Chi Tunnels - a tunnel system built by the Vietnamese during the war with the United States -, theaters, houses of culture, parks and much more.

Halong Bay

A finalist candidate for one of the 7 new wonders of the world and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Halong Bay is impressive with the thousands of islets that form a stunning landscape composed of several limestone walls. A huge range of beaches, caves and caves make Halong Bay a mandatory stop among Vietnam destinations.

Hoi An

Forgotten during the wars, Hoi An is one of the few cities in Vietnam that seem to have been unscathed and to this day it retains the charm of a rich architectural fusion between Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and European influences dating back to the 16th century. At its peak, on the now sleepy Thu Bon River channel, there was a crowd rubbing shoulders in merchant ships from major trading nations.
Granted UNESCO World Heritage status in 1999, the most photographed spot in the city is undoubtedly the beautiful Japanese covered bridge. Other popular activities include: day trip to the ruins of the My Son shrine, taking a bike tour of the rural area surrounding the city, or taking a ride on the Thu Bon River.

Hué

Although the Nguyen dynasty no longer exists, Hué exudes an air of royalty. It is still fertile ground for poets, artists, academics, and intellectuals, in addition to concentrating many more young people than in other cities—largely because, unlike elsewhere in Vietnam, female students continue to wear typical Vietnamese attire every day.
The city is divided into three clearly defined urban areas, each with its own character. The 19th-century fortified citadel, on the north bank of the Perfume River, contains the magnificent Imperial City, as well as an extensive grid of residential streets and gardens. Across the Dong Ba Canal is Phu Cat, the merchant block where ships docked and is now a neighborhood filled with shops, Chinese Assembly Halls, and pagodas. What used to be called a European city, a triangle of land between the southern bank of the Perfume River and Phu Cam Canal, is now the modern administrative center of Hué, where most of the hotels and tourist services are located.

Best time to go to Vietnam

It is recommended to visit the country between November and March, when the temperature is more pleasant and there is little rain, with an average temperature of 22°C.
Vietnam is located in both a tropical and a temperate zone. It is characterized by strong influences from the monsoons (hot and rainy, predominantly between May and October), but it has a considerable amount of sunshine, a high rainfall index and high humidity. In regions close to the tropics and in the mountainous regions, it has a temperate climate.
