Ulan Bator, Khovsgol

8-day itinerary through ancient Mongolia, with traditional Gers, Lake Khovsgol, Tsaatan reindeer herders, shamanic rituals, Taiga trails, and experiences with nomadic families.
DAY 1: ULAN BATOR
Arrival in Ulan Bator (Ulaan Bator). Private transfer to the hotel. Accommodation for 1 night, with breakfast.
Ulan Bator, the capital of Mongolia, stands out for its Buddhist monasteries, museums, and historic landmarks. The city combines influences from the Mongolian tradition with elements of the Soviet era, being the country's main political, cultural, and economic center.
DAY 2: ULAN BATOR/MURUN - KHOVSGOL
Breakfast and check-out at the hotel. Private transfer to the airport to board a flight to Murun (Moron).
Arrival and private full-day tour, with an English-speaking guide, to the province of Khovsgol (Khuvsgul), considered one of the main regions of Mongolian shamanism, where ancient spiritual traditions continue to shape the region's spirit and cultural identity. Then, visit the Murun Museum, its collection offers an insight into the region's diverse peoples and animals, such as the 100-million-year-old mammoth.
Continue to Lake Khovsgol (Khuvsgul), known as the “pearl” of Mongolia, a vital natural resource that contains 70% of the country's fresh water and is part of the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves.
Take a ferry on Lake Khovsgol (Khuvsgul) to the camp. Accommodation for 2 nights, with full board.
Day 3: KHOVSGOL
Breakfast at the camp. Full-day private tour, with English-speaking guide.
Start the day with a horseback ride or hike through the taiga forest, with a local ranger, to spot wild animals, such as elks, deer, and marmots.
Continue to Somoo Saridag, also known as the 'Stone of Wishes', an enigmatic geological formation on the shores of Lake Khovsgol (Khuvsgul), visited by locals and travelers who whisper prayers and wishes there in search of good fortune.
Return to camp for lunch (without drinks) with Khorkhog, a typical Mongolian barbecue dish, made with fresh mutton and vegetables cooked on hot stones.
Then, visit a Ger (Yurt) dwelling, a traditional Mongolian building that supports nomadic communities during severe winters and intense summers in the region.
Return to the camp.
Day 4: KHOVSGOL
Breakfast and check-out at the camp.
Start of the day with a practical cooking class with a local chef, using wild vegetables picked directly from the taiga forest to prepare traditional specialties, such as flatbreads, rhubarb jam, buuz (steamed dumplings), khuushuur (fried pastries filled with meat), curdled cream and khailmag (typical milk-based sweet).
After lunch, boat ride to Alag Tsar, with stops and visits to a nomadic Darkhad family, with participation in cow milking and the production of dairy products, as well as interaction in cultural activities, such as the traditional game Shagai, made with mutton bones. Continuation to meet with a Tsaatan (Dukha) family, one of the last groups of nomadic reindeer herders in the world.
Finally, arrival at the hotel. Accommodation for 2 nights, with full board.
Day 5: KHOVSGOL
Breakfast at the hotel. Private full-day tour of Murun, with an English-speaking guide.
2-3 hour hike from the base of the mountain to Hyasaa Saridag, to contemplate a panoramic view of Lake Khovsgol (Khuvsgul) and the Khoridol Saridag mountain range, amidst the region's rich biodiversity.
Then, arrival to the Darkhad Valley to meet with a local shaman, who will share aspects of his practices and beliefs as a mediator between the physical and spiritual worlds.
Return to the camp.
Dinner (without drinks) around the campfire while a folk group from Khovsgol performs traditional music that tells stories of the steppe, the taiga, and the knights who once ruled these lands.
Day 6: KHOVSGOL - MURUN - VILA KHATGAL/ULAN BATOR
Breakfast and check-out at the camp. Private airport transfer for boarding a flight to Ulan Bator.
Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation for 2 nights, with breakfast.
Rest of the day free for independent activities.
Day 7: ULAN BATOR
Breakfast at the hotel. Full-day private tour of Ulan Bator, with English-speaking guide.
Visit the Gandantegchinlen Monastery (Gandan Monastery), the city's main monastery, which survived the communist purges that resulted in the mass demolition of hundreds of monasteries and temples across the country, and the Migjid Janraisig Temple, which houses the monumental statue of Avalokiteśvara.
Then, visit the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, which chronicles the history of the Mongols, the legendary Chinggis Khaan (Genghis Khan) and the vast empire formed from his conquests, combining virtual reality, interactive exhibitions, videos and authentic craftsmanship.
Finally, a performance by the folk band Bogta, whose music preserves the Mongolian cultural heritage through the melodies of Morin Khuur (horse-headed violin).
Before returning to the hotel, farewell dinner (without drinks) at the Il Fiore Restaurant, located on the top floor of the Eco Tower, with a panoramic view of Ulan Bator.
Return to the hotel.
Day 8: ULAN BATOR
Breakfast and check-out at the hotel. Private transfer to the airport (around 1h30).
