Seoul, Gyeongju, Busan
Travel around South Korea and discover its colors on this 8-day itinerary in Seoul, Gyeongju, and Busan.
Day 1 (WEDNESDAY): Seoul
Arrival at Incheon airport and meeting with representative to take a shared transfer to the hotel.
Accommodation for 3 nights, with breakfast.
Day 2 (THURSDAY): Seoul
After breakfast at the hotel, I meet the Spanish-speaking guide at the hotel reception for a full-day tour using public transport.
Visit the Gyeongbokgung Palace, an old royal palace renowned for its traditional Korean architecture, beautiful gardens and for being the main royal palace of the kings of the Joseon dynasty, the Folklore Museum and the Jogyesa Temple, one of the main Buddhist temples in the city.
Lunch at a local restaurant (no drinks).
In the afternoon, walk around the Bukchon district, a historic area famous for its traditional houses, the 'hanoks'. Continue along Insadong Street, famous for its antique and craft shops, art galleries, and traditional restaurants.
Finally, an opportunity to watch the comedy performance “Cookin' Nanta”, a non-verbal comedy animated by the rhythm of the kitchen utensil with a combination of traditional and modern Korean music.
Day 3 (FRIDAY): SEOUL
Breakfast at the hotel. Free day for independent activities.
Optional activity suggestion (not included):
- Full-day DMZ (Korean Demilitarized Zone) tour, with a guide in Spanish or English and lunch (excluding drinks).
Day 4 (SATURDAY): SEOUL - GYEONGJU
Breakfast and check-out at the hotel. Transfer to Seoul train station to board the KTX train bound for Gyeongju, the spiritual and cultural capital of South Korea.
Arrival in Gyeongju and half-day tour, with a guide in Spanish, through the town of Yangdong, one of the most traditional villages in South Korea. Nestled between valleys, with the four peaks of Mount Seolchangsan as a backdrop, the village has about 160 old houses, including 500 year old straw huts.
Lunch stop at a local restaurant (no drinks).
In the afternoon, walk through Tumuli Park or Daereungwon Tomb Complex, where it houses ancient Silla dynasty tombs known for their mound shapes. It includes admission to the Cheonmachong Tomb, also known as the Tomb of the Sky Horse.
Continuation of the visit to the Noseo-dong tombs, and stop at the oldest observatory in the Far East, the Cheomseongdae tower.
At the end of the day, transfer to the hotel for accommodation for 1 night, with breakfast.
Day 5 (SUNDAY): GYEONGJU - BUSAN
After breakfast and check-out at the hotel, half-day tour with guide in Spanish. Visit the Bulguksa Temple, a Buddhist temple that dates back to the period of the Silla Kingdom and declared, in the 2000s, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Seokguram Cave, which houses a granite statue of the Buddha, sculpted in the 8th century. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant (without drinks).
At the end of the tour, transfer to Busan and accommodation for 2 nights, with breakfast.
Day 6 (MONDAY): BUSAN
After breakfast at the hotel, city tour with guide in Spanish. Visit the United Nations Memorial Cemetery*, a final resting place for United Nations soldiers who lost their lives during the Korean War, and the Jagalchi market, famous for its fresh seafood.
Lunch stop at a local restaurant (no drinks).
In the afternoon, visit the cultural village of Gamcheon, an old neighborhood located on a hill where houses are decorated with beautiful murals and sculptures created by residents.
After the tour, return to the hotel.
*Note: To visit the United Nations Memorial Cemetery, a dress code must be followed. No swimsuits, no clothes that expose the body too much, no flip flops or sandals, masks, caps/hats, gloves, etc.
DAY 7 (TUESDAY): BUSAN - SEOUL
Breakfast and check-out at the hotel. Transfer (without guide) to Busan train station to board the KTX train bound for Seoul.
Arrival and transfer to the hotel for accommodation for 1 night, with breakfast.
Free time for independent activities.
DAY 8 (WEDNESDAY): SEOUL
Breakfast and check-out at the hotel. Shared shuttle-style transfer to Incheon Airport.
THIS ITINERARY INCLUDES:
- Accommodation for 4 nights in Seoul, with breakfast;
- Accommodation for 1 night in Gyeongju, with breakfast;
- Accommodation for 2 nights in Busan, with breakfast;
- Shared shuttle-style transfers between the airport/hotel/airport;
- Shared ground transfers between cities, as mentioned in the itinerary;
- KTX Express train ticket between Seoul - Gyeongju and Busan - Seoul, in second class;
- Shared tours with a guide in Spanish, according to the itinerary:
- Full-day public transportation tour of Seoul, including Gyeongbokgung Palace, Folklore Museum, Jogyesa Temple, Bukchon District, Insadong Street and Cookin' Nanta presentation;
- Gyeongju full-day tour, including Yangdong, Tumuli Park, and Cheomseongdae Tower;
