Discover Namibia
Namibia is located in the south of the African continent, bordering countries such as Angola, Botswana, Zambia, and South Africa. Two deserts are part of the national territory: the Namibian desert and the Kalahari desert.
Colonized by Germans, the country was once part of South Africa and is made up of several ethnic groups such as the Herrero, Himba, Damara and others.
The country never ceases to enchant with the grandeur and splendor of its desert. Known for its contrasting landscapes, the Namib desert is said to be the oldest in the world, with its dunes and a breathtaking sense of space. Dinosaur footprints preserved in sandstone and rock art are testament to Namibia's timelessness. Internationally known as any photographer's dream, Sossusvlei, with its monumental dunes, was formed by multidirectional winds and is an inspiring attraction with its exceptional setting.
Damaraland is known for its interesting flora and fauna, dominated by rugged and steep mountains, inhabited almost exclusively by the only semi-nomadic tribe, the Himba. Etosha National Park is excellent for spotting animals and includes several endangered species, such as the black rhinoceros.
Touristic spots
Namib Desert
- The long desert is 80 million years old and has already been mentioned as probably the oldest in the world and is marked by the Sossusvlei dunes, considered to be the highest in the world; the iron oxide composition gives the region's sand a reddish hue, which merges with the blue sky and the petrified trees, making it a unique setting on the planet;
Kalahari Desert
- With rain only in a short period of the year, the Kalahari Desert gains small rivers and extensive vegetation, which in turn soon disappear with the rapidly returning drought, mistreating the animals attracted to the region, which gives the desert the title of “treacherous”. Unlike the common idea of deserts, Kalahari is characterized by red sand and thick vegetation. To the north, denser vegetation predominates with the presence of rivers such as the Okavango, while to the south the landscape is increasingly dry and uninhabitable;
Fish River Canyon
- At about 160 km long and 27 km wide, this is the second largest canyon on the planet. The region receives few tourists daily and can be considered isolated, which means moments of contemplation of this natural work and spectacular photos.
Caprivi Belt
- A narrow corridor about 450 km long and 30 km wide, to cross the region, it is necessary to pass through three national parks: Bwabwata National Park, Mudumu National Park and Nkasa Rupara National Park, all sheltering wild animals such as elephants, buffaloes and giraffes, as well as a wide variety of birds;
Other natural attractions
- The Cunene River originates in Angola and forms a natural border with Angola at 1100 km. The river flows until it reaches the Atlantic Ocean and its composition of desert, freshwater and sea create an extraordinary landscape. The region's tourist potential has been discovered little by little and has great tourist potential. To see the watercourse at its peak and greatest flow of water, the visit must take place between March and April.
