Leading Sri Lanka's rich heritage, — one of the largest and oldest civilizations in the world, with 113 kings and lasting more than 1,300 years — it was declared the country's largest ancient city, and reigned as the country's first capital. The jewel in the crown is certainly Sri Maha Bodhi, the sacred Bo sapling extracted from the tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment.
Dambulla
City where a treasure has been guarded by many kings since the 1st century BC. Today, the Dambulla Rock temple, or Golden Temple of Dambulla, has one of the most unique and magnificent works of paintings in the country, housed in 5 caves that form the temple.
Kandy
A World Heritage Site, it was the last capital of the Kings of Sri Lanka, ruled by King Wickrama Rajasinghe before the country became an English colony in 1815. It offers visitors a great historical and cultural heritage and the customs of the local people.
Nuwara Eliya
Located on top of the mountains at an altitude of about 2,000 meters, the village was in the 19th century a British colonial retreat and its architecture mimics a typical English country city. Perfect climate for the production of what is now considered one of the finest teas in the world.
Galle
A trip back in time; classic Dutch architecture meets tropical vegetation, creating a vibrant climate and atmosphere. Walking through the narrow streets of this charming village, you can see how European architecture mixes with the traditions of South Asia. Some of the most important monuments and buildings have been there for over 350 years.
