Crossing the Lençóis Maranhenses
Atins, Baixa Grande, Queimada Dos Britos, São Luis
A journey through living dunes, crystalline lagoons and oases inhabited by traditional communities. Each step reveals silence, immensity, and genuine encounters with local culture, resulting in a simple, profound and unforgettable experience.
Day 1: São Luís - Barreirinhas - Preguiças River - Revoada dos Guarás - Atins
Arrival at São Luís International Airport - Marechal Cunha Machado and private transfer of approximately 04 hours to Barreirinhas followed by continuing along the Preguiças River to the coastal town of Atins, passing through areas of palm trees and mangroves.
Along the way, there will be a stop for breakfast while waiting for the Revoada dos Guarás moment. Considered one of the most impressive birds in the world, manatees show crimson-red plumage as an adult, a shade resulting from the beta-carotene present in the small crabs that make up their diet. It walks slowly through the shallow water, keeping its beak submerged in search of crustaceans, such as the lama-mare, the sarará, and the maraquani.
After contemplating the breeze and the sunset, the route continues by speedboat to the port of Atins, where a vehicle will be available for private transportation to the inn. Accommodation for 3 nights, with breakfast.
2nd day: ATINS - PONTA DO MANGUE - ATINS
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure in a private 4x4 vehicle to visit the Ponta do Mangue Lagoon circuit, with a stop for swimming and photographic recording at the best lagoons of the season.
During the tour, there will also be a stop at the Carminha Restaurant, located in the town of Ponta do Mangue, on the edge of Lagoa do Mário, offering a privileged view. The most traditional dishes recommended are shrimp or grilled fish. After resting in hammocks, return to Atins.
Day 3: atins - Canto do Atins - Atins
Breakfast at the hotel. Free morning to enjoy Atins Beach.
In the middle of the afternoon, departure in a 4x4 vehicle to visit the Canto do Atins Lagoas Circuit, including stops for swimming and photos of the best lagoons of the season. Between April and early June, the itinerary also includes a visit to Cachoeira do Bonzinho.
During sunset, a picnic will be served for contemplation. Return to Atins after sunset.
Day 4: Atins - Baixa Grande
At the end of the morning, board a 4x4 vehicle to the mouth of the Rio Negro (Ponta da Bandeira), on a journey of approximately 25 km along the coast, with an average duration of 1 hour. From there, the walk of about 10 km through the dunes begins to Baixa Grande, one of the oases of the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park.
Along the route, it is possible to contemplate isolated lagoons in the National Park, with stops for bathing and the use of sunscreen.
In Baixa Grande, there will be food options such as free-range chicken, goat or fish, as well as vegan and vegetarian alternatives prepared by the residents of the oasis. Free evening to experience with the local community.
Accommodation for 1 night in a Local Lodge, with full board.
Day 5: Baixa Grande - Queimada dos Britos
After breakfast, departure in the morning to continue the journey. On this day, a walk of approximately 11 km takes place. Along the way, it is possible to contemplate some of the most impressive lagoons in the National Park, with stops for bathing and the use of sunscreen.
In Queimada dos Britos, there is accommodation and a visit to the village, recognized as another oasis within the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, already the scene of productions such as Casa de Areia and several national and international reports.
Regional lunch and dinner are served (included), with options such as free-range chicken, goat or fish, as well as vegan and vegetarian alternatives prepared by the residents of the oasis.
Free evening for interaction with the local community. Accommodation for 1 night at Hospedaria Local, with full board on the
6th day: Queimada dos Britos - Betânia - São Luís
After breakfast, departure at the end of the night to leave Queimada dos Britos and start the walk to Betânia, on a route of approximately 17 km, scheduled to arrive late in the morning. Along the way, there are stops for swimming in the lagoons, highlighted as the largest and most well-known in the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park.
Upon arrival in Betânia, a stop for lunch is included at a local restaurant. After a short rest, departure by private shuttle with return to São Luís. Accommodation for 1 night, with breakfast included.
7th day: São Luís
Breakfast at the hotel. Private transfer to São Luís - Marechal Cunha Machado International Airport.
