Destination Morocco

Learn more about Morocco, a country of great wealth, which despite European colonial rule and modern cities, has a unique cultural past.
Discover Morocco
For Westerners, Morocco maintains an immediate and lasting fascination. Despite being just an hour's ferry ride from Spain, the visitor has the impression of being far from Europe, immersed in an Islamic and profoundly traditional culture. Throughout the country, despite the years of French and Spanish colonial rule and the presence of modern and cosmopolitan cities such as Rabat and Casablanca, it is possible to feel the presence of a more distant past.
Fez, perhaps the most beautiful of all Arab cities, still maintains a life rooted in medieval times, when a Moroccan kingdom extended from Senegal to northern Spain, while in the Atlas and Rif mountains, it is still possible to draw up tribal maps of the Berber population. As a backdrop to all this, the country's geographical composition is extraordinary: from the Mediterranean coast, across four mountain ranges, to the sandy vastness of the Sahara.

Best time to go to Morocco
The ideal is to plan a visit to southern Morocco - or at least the desert routes - outside of summer, when most of the day is too hot for activities. Between July and August, the hottest months, it can be wonderful to visit the coastal region, while in the mountains there are no rules.
Spring, which comes between April and May, is perhaps the best season, with pleasant weather both in the south and in the mountains and on the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.
During the peak summer months (between June and August), the weather can get brutally hot, especially in Marrakech, Fez, and the southwestern region of the country. The farther south you go, the closer to the Sahara desert. Another reason to avoid the summer months is that it coincides with the European summer, when the number of visitors to Morocco increases.
The most comfortable time to visit the Sahara desert is during fall or early spring, avoiding the parched landscapes, scorching summer temperatures, and freezing winter nighttime temperatures.
