Peru with the Belmond Andean Explorer Train

Day 1 (Thursday): LIMA
Arrival, reception and transfer to the hotel for accommodation for 3 nights with breakfast.

Peru's largest city, Lima is vibrant and full of attractions to visit. Famous for their cuisine, the restaurants are undoubtedly among the city's greatest attractions.


Day 2 (Friday): LIMA
After breakfast at the hotel, private half-day tour with guide in Spanish to the city's main tourist attractions.

The first visit is to the Larco Museum, located in the Pueblo Libre neighborhood. This museum was built on a pre-Columbian pyramid, which houses more than 3 thousand years of Peruvian history, and stands out for its impressive selection of gold and silver jewelry.

Then, visit Casa Aliaga, a 1553 mansion considered a jewel of colonial and republican architecture.

Finally, a visit to the Plaza de Armas and the examples from the colonial era, in addition to the Lima Cathedral.


DAY 3 (Saturday): LIMA
Breakfast at the hotel. Half-day panoramic walking tour with a guide in Spanish along Malecon, passing through the bohemian district of Barranco, the Miraflores district and the Parque del Amor, with a view of the Pacific Ocean.

Then, cooking class to learn how to prepare a typical Peruvian dish and cocktail demonstration to learn how to prepare the famous pisco sour.

Stop for lunch (without drinks) or at a local restaurant and return to the hotel.

Free afternoon for independent activities.


Day 4 (Sunday): LIMA/Cusco - SACRED VALLEY
Breakfast and check-out at the hotel. Transfer to Lima airport and board the flight to Cusco (flight not included).

Arrival at Cusco Airport and transfer to the hotel in the Sacred Valley. Accommodation for 2 nights with breakfast.

Rest of the afternoon free to enjoy the facilities offered by the hotel.


Day 5 (Monday): SACRED VALLEY
Breakfast at the hotel and private full-day tour with guide in Spanish in the Sacred Valley.

Visit Chinchero, a town renowned for the extraordinary quality and beauty of its textile products and for the Sunday market, where the native population, wearing typical colorful costumes, sells their products.

Then, visit the Salinas de Maras. Explored since the time of the Incas, these salt mines surprise with their white steps. Visit to the archaeological center of Moray, which was used as an agricultural laboratory. Its system of circular terraces, which descend for approximately 150 meters, confirm the wisdom of the Incas in building masterpieces in harmony with nature.

Lunch stop at Casa Hacienda Orihuela (without drinks).

Finally, visit Ollantaytambo, one of the last living villages of the Inca culture, which was carefully guarded by a colossal fortress. The large archaeological complex in the area was once an inn or city of rest and lodging for royal entourages that traveled long distances. The architectural ruins still preserve walls and towers that protected it from possible invasions.


Day 6 (Tuesday): SACRED VALLEY - MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO
After breakfast and check-out at the hotel, departure to the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu, aboard the Hiram Bingham luxury train, with panoramic windows, observatory car and bar wagon, which allow you to enjoy spectacular views along the way.

Upon arrival, transfer by bus to the entrance gate of the Machu Picchu citadel. Discovered by Hiram Bingham more than a century ago, Machu Picchu is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The architectural beauty, spectacular natural landscapes and energy surrounding its enigmatic buildings are breathtaking.

In the late afternoon, transfer to the Aguas Calientes train station to board the Hiram Bingham luxury train to Poroy train station, followed by a private ground transfer to the hotel in Cusco. Accommodation for 2 nights, with breakfast.


Day 7 (Wednesday): CUSCO
Breakfast at the hotel and private half-day tour with guide in Spanish in Cusco.

Visit to the Santo Domingo Convent, built in the Inca temple of Coricancha (golden enclosure), a temple dedicated to the worship of the Sun god that, according to reports, had entire walls covered with gold.

Then visit the Plaza de Armas and the ruins of the temple and the Qenqo amphitheater, believed to be the place where the Incas practiced rituals related to agriculture.

Continuation to the Puka Pukara archaeological complex known as the “red fortress” in Quechua, an ancient Inca military complex.


Day 8 (Thursday): CUSCO - PUNO
Breakfast. Transfer to Cusco station to board the luxurious Belmond Andean Explorer (departures on Thursdays), with a warm welcome with live music, ballerinas and appetizers. Accommodation on the train for 2 nights, with full board.

• 11:00: Departure of the train from Cusco.
• 12:30: Lunch on board at the train restaurant, which offers typical Peruvian cuisine.
• 14:00: Visit to the Raqchi archaeological center.
• 15:45: Afternoon tea in the bar car.
• 17:20: Arrival in La Raya.
• 19:00: Cocktails and canapés at the Piano Bar.
• 19:30: Dinner on board.
• 23:30: Arrival at Lake Titicaca - Puno Muelle station.
  
  
  

9th day (Friday): PUNO - AREQUIPA

• 06:00: Breakfast on board.
• 09:30: Tour of Lake Titicaca, visit the Floating Bear Island and visit Collata Beach.
• 13:00: Lunch in Taquile, including a visit to Collata Beach.
• 16:00: Afternoon tea.
• 16:50: Departure for Saracocha.
• 19:00: Cocktails and canapés on board.
• 19:30: Dinner on board.

10th day (Saturday): PUNO - AREQUIPA

• 06:00: Breakfast on board.
• 09:50: Tour of the Sumbay caves, which house impressive rock art.
• 11:30: Stop at Km 93.
• 12:30: Lunch on board
• 15:30: Arrival to Arequipa, after disembarking the Belmond Andean Explorer train, private transfer to the hotel and accommodation for 2 nights, with half board in Arequipa.

DAY 11 (Sunday): AREQUIPA
After breakfast at the hotel, private half-day tour with guide in Spanish, to the main tourist attractions of Arequipa.

Visit the Carmen Alto viewpoint, where you can have a panoramic view of the city. Continue to the Yanahuara neighborhood, surrounded by narrow streets built with cobblestones and where one of the churches of the mixed art of Cusco, built in 1750, is located.

Then, visit the Plaza de Armas, the Companhia de Jesus Church, the Cathedral and the Monastery of Santa Catalina.

Return to the hotel and free afternoon to enjoy the facilities offered by the hotel.

In the evening, have dinner at the hotel.

DAY 12 (SUNDAY): AREQUIPA
Breakfast and check-out at the hotel. Private transfer to Arequipa airport.
