Kangaroo Island is 15 km off the coast of South Australia and is the third largest island in the country, 155 km long and 55 km wide. With twenty-one national and conservation parks, Kangaroo Island has established itself as a first-rate destination for nature lovers.
The Southern Ocean Lodge, located in Hanson Bay, is the main property of Baillie Lodges on Kangaroo Island and reopened in December 2023. Designed by the lodge's original architect, Max Pritchard, from South Australia, the new lodge follows nearly the same layout as the original, with 25 luxurious suites along the shoreline, now reoriented to capture more views of the ocean and coastal nature.
Environmental sustainability is central to the design of the Southern Ocean Lodge, with an increase in water collection and solar energy generation, in addition to the conscious planting of native fire retardant plants and natural barriers to wild nature.
