Self-Drive Garden Route with Safari

Explore the incredible landscapes of the Garden Route in South Africa on a self-drive from Cape Town to one of the animal reserves in the Eastern Cape.
DAY 1: CAPE TOWN
Arrival in Cape Town. Pick up a car and drive to the hotel for accommodation for 3 nights, with breakfast.
DAY 2: CAPE TOWN
Breakfast at the hotel. Day off.
Optional activity suggestion (not included):
- Private tour to explore the city of Cape Town, with the opportunity to visit Table Mountain, one of the seven new wonders of the world, which offers spectacular views of the city and the bay (includes the ticket for the cable car to access Table Mountain, whose visit depends on the weather conditions on the day). The tour passes through the vibrant flea market, known as Greenmarket Square; The Company's Garden, located in the center of the city of Cape Town; the former “Slave Lodge”, the Parliament and the St. Georges Cathedral. Then pass in front of the Castle of Good Hope ending with a stop in the Bo Kaap Malay neighborhood, with its colorful houses and picturesque mosques. Note: Table Mountain will be closed for maintenance between 28/07/2025 and 03/08/2025.
DAY 3: CAPE TOWN
Breakfast at the hotel. Day off.

- Private tour along the Cape Peninsula, a spectacular route where you can see the landscape, vegetation, and wildlife. Unique opportunity to take beautiful photographs and observe the two oceans, Atlantic and Indian. The first stop is at Hout Bay or Timber Bay, with the option of taking a boat ride to an island inhabited by a Cape seal colony. Continue to Chapman's Peak (subject to weather conditions) to visit the Good Hope Nature Reserve, where the Cape of Good Hope is located. Opportunity to take the cable car (ticket not included) and climb to the old lighthouse to enjoy the view of the famous False Bay. Then continue to Simon's Town, home of the South African Navy to visit a famous colony of African penguins, a species that is seriously endangered. At the end of the day, return to the hotel.
DAY 4: CAPE TOWN - FRANSCHHOEK
Breakfast and check-out at the hotel. Drive the rental vehicle for about 80 km to the city of Franschhoek. Accommodation for 2 nights, with breakfast.
DAY 5: FRANSCHHOEK
Breakfast at the hotel. Day off.
Optional activity suggestion (not included):
- Private tour to discover the cities of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, known for their charm and wineries. Stellenbosch is the second oldest city in the Cape region, where “Pinotage” was created in 1925, a South African grape variety that crosses the Pinot Noir grape with the Cinsault grape, also known as Hermitage. Pinotage is the result of the union of the two names: Pinot + Hermitage. During the wine tasting tour and winery tour. Then, visit the city of Franschhoek, a French colony where the first “Huguenots” who migrated settled in the region.
DAY 6: FRANSCHHOEK - PLETTENBERG BAY
Breakfast and check-out at the hotel. Drive about 481 km to Plettenberg Bay. Accommodation for 2 nights, with breakfast.
Situated along the spectacular Garden Route, the coastal city of Plettenberg Bay is an ideal vacation destination. Plettenberg Bay is a picturesque and charming city with pristine beaches, lagoons, rivers, forests, and a rocky peninsula.
DAY 7: PLETTENBERG BAY Free
day for independent activities.
DAY 8: PLETTENBERG BAY - animal reserve
Breakfast and check-out. Drive about 300 km to the animal reserve. Accommodation for 2 nights with breakfast, lunch and dinner (excluding drinks).
After lunch at the lodge, free time until the afternoon safari, accompanied by an English-speaking ranger. Return to the lodge for dinner.
Note: Lunch and participation in the afternoon safari will be subject to the time of arrival at the lodge.
DAY 9: animal reservation
Early in the morning, after coffee or tea, departure for safari in an open 4x4 car accompanied by the ranger in English.
Upon returning to the lodge, breakfast and free time to take advantage of the facilities. After lunch and afternoon tea, departure for a second safari. Return to the lodge for dinner.
DAY 10: animal reserve - Port Elizabeth/Cape Town
After tea or coffee, early morning safari. Upon return, breakfast at the lodge and drive to Port Elizabeth airport to board a flight (not included) to Cape Town for accommodation for 1 night, with breakfast.
Day 11: Cape Town
Breakfast at the hotel and check-out. Drive to Cape Town airport to return the rental vehicle.
